Prosper Fishing Derby 2025

Note: The Derby is traditionally held in February. Exact date and times are announced by the City of Prosper—the times above are placeholders.

Young anglers love the annual Prosper Fishing Derby! This free event features an informal, friendly competition for Most Fish Caught, with prizes awarded by age category for youngsters ages 14 and under.

Event Highlights

Free entry for participants ages 14 and under
Informal Most Fish Caught competition
Prizes awarded across age groups: 1–4, 5–6, 7–8, 9–10, 11–12, and 13–14
Rainbow trout stocked by the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department prior to the event
Catch-and-keep for trout only (limit 5 per person)
Post-event award ceremony under the large pavilion near Windmill Playground

Rules & Procedures

Choose your spot anywhere along the pond’s edge when you arrive.
Adults may assist children but should refrain from fishing during the event.
Judges will be stationed around the pond to track catches.
Participants should check in with the same judge each time they catch a fish.
After the Derby, join us at the pavilion for the prize ceremony recognizing first-place finishes in each age category.

What to Bring

Fishing gear, bait, cooler, and chair (participants furnish their own)
Weather-appropriate clothing—please check the forecast
Water and snacks

Licensing & Limits

The Derby is catch-and-keep for trout only, 5-trout limit per person.
Anglers 17 and older must have a valid Texas fishing license (available online via the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department).
